Unbounded Love

I learnt about an interesting subject recently. Self-love. What is self-love? Some call it being selfish or
maybe self-obsessed. People many times look down upon the idea of self-love, calling it a moral flaw.
But I believe if there’s any love that’s true and pure its self-love.
Imagine being in love. Oh, the thrill of that love! You want and need to be with this person. See only
good in him, accept him with all his flaws. You want to be surrounded with this joy and hope and deep
intensity of love. You always have that silly grin on your face and the world seems like a beautiful
place to be in. This all-encompassing love is what you want, and will make every effort to treasure
forever.
Now imagine that love of your life is You. Love yourself with this same intensity. Promise to honour
this love and keep it in this beautiful place forever. Accept your failings and work on them. Don’t
give up on your relationship with yourself.
To quote the Buddha ‘You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserves your love and
affection’. No truer words have been spoken.
Self-love is not arrogance, it’s not an obsession with self, nor vanity. It’s acceptance of who we are
and taking responsibility for one’s self. Look within and see the person we should love the most. Our
relationships are mirrors of our inner self. A dispirited person will not have gratifying relationships.
Nobody can make us happy until we are happy with ourself first and no one has the power to make us
unhappy if we have this abundant love to give oneself.
Focus on positivity, look in the mirror and smile at your best friend. Trust the person staring back at
you.
There’s nothing more dangerous than a lack of self-love. So, put your hand on your heart and feel the
love.
If we learn to forgive ourselves, we’ll see no sinners. Laugh at ourselves, we’ll notice happy people.
Accept our imperfections and work on them, then we’ll watch people strive to better themselves. Be
happy and build a joyful world around us. It all starts with a little self-love. It’s not easy, but it’s worth
sustaining this most meaning relationship of our lives.
